Obligations of NJHS Membership
1. Membership Status & Academic Standards
- Students selected for NJHS remain “successfully selected candidates” until they are formally inducted in the Spring.
- All members must be inducted at a special ceremony to become active members of the chapter.
- Once inducted, all members are expected to maintain 3.5 unweighted GPA.
- Continue to demonstrate excellence in scholarship, leadership, character, and citizenship.
2. Meetings, Participation & Attendance
- Attend all monthly NJHS meetings and any additional required meetings.
- Actively participate and contribute in meetings and chapter activities.
- Participate in and support all chapter projects, including service, fundraising, and school/community outreach.
- Meet school district attendance requirements as outlined in the student handbook.
3. Service Commitment
- Participate in all chapter service projects.
- Complete individual service projects approved by the adviser.
- Earn a minimum of 18 community service hours.
- Service should be meaningful, organized, and meet school or community needs.
4. Conduct & Character Expectations
- Demonstrate respect, responsibility, and integrity at all times.
- Follow all school rules and serve as a positive role model.
- Members must not receive ISS or discipline referrals.
- Any ISS or referral results in automatic probation. A second infraction may result in possible dismissal from NJHS.
5. Dues & Accountability
- Chapter dues are $20, to be paid within 30 days of the induction ceremony.
- Dues support NJHS activities and projects.
- Members who fail to meet expectations may be subject to:
- Probation
- Faculty Council review
- Possible dismissal
6. Commitment to Membership
- NJHS requires time, effort, and responsibility.
- Members are expected to remain active, engaged, and committed throughout the year.
