Shaker Crew Medals October 5th Regatta

Shaker Crew medaled in two events at the Head of the Ohio Regatta in Pittsburgh on October 5th. Competing against 48 schools and clubs from 9 states and Canada, the Red Raider Rowers captured bronze in the Women's Varsity Double and silver in the Women's Novice Four.

Girl's Novice 4

The second-place Novice Four was stroked by Sophomore Marisa Hofstetter,followed by her twin sister Megan in the three seat, Amalia Ackerman in two seat and Olivia Rayburn in the bow. Hannah Barrett coxed the silver-medal four. Seniors Alexandra Gaines and Bianca Zarders, racing in a doubles event for the first time ever, finished third among high school entrants.

The Women's JV eight just missed a medal, completing the 2.6 mile Allegheny River course in fourth place. Sophomores Max Bond and Peter Zagara, also racing a double for the first time, finished ninth in the Men's Varsity Double.

Shaker Heights High School Crew is one of only three public schools in Ohio competing in boys and girls varsity crew. This fall Assistant Coach Theresa Gang has also conducted a Sunday afternoon introductory rowing program for the Shaker Middle School.
